Egyptian history keeps many secrets and mysteries and, along with the world-famous pharaohs and pyramids, women - Cleopatra and Nefertiti - were able to leave their bright mark in the history of this ancient country.
Queen Nefertiti was the “main consort” of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten and gained worldwide fame thanks to her unique sculptural bust.
The bust of Queen Nefertiti was discovered in 1912 during the excavations of the ancient city of Akhetatona, carried out under the leadership of the German Egyptologist Ludwig Borchardt. The sculpture was located in one of the premises of the workshop of the ancient Egyptian sculptor Thutmose, along with dozens of other sculptures depicting Pharaoh Akhenaten and his entourage.
After many hours of attempts to carefully remove the find from the sand and fragments of the brick walls of the house, historians were able to see that their find is a perfectly preserved life-size bust of a woman. In his archaeological diary, opposite the sketch of the monument, amazed by what he saw, Borchardt wrote just one phrase:
Bust of Nefertiti, the main wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten.
Currently, the bust of the queen is kept in the collection of the Egyptian Museum in Berlin. Almost perfect preservation, brightness of colors and liveliness of the right eye make a striking impression on the viewer and cause much controversy in scientific circles.
Recently it was discovered that the bust of the beauty Nefertiti has a late "plastic surgery" with plaster. Initially molded with a "potato" nose, it was later revised and began to be considered the standard of Egyptian beauty.
