Heinrich Himmler - one of the main figures of the Third Reich, Reichsfuehrer SS, head of the Gestapo during the Holocaust. An agronomist by profession, he believed in the exclusivity of the German nation, whose representatives he considered to be true Aryans.
Himmler was literally obsessed with the idea of the supernatural. He believed that the study of ancient Germanic mythology would help substantiate racist theories, and the magic books themselves hold the key to absolute power over the world. Hitler never fully shared the enthusiasm of his favorite, but gave him complete freedom of action.
Himmler was so passionate about the idea of devil worship that in 1935 he initiated the creation of the SS special department "H-Sonderkommando" (H-Sonderkommando). The first letter of the name is not accidental, because the German word "witch" (Hexe) begins with it. The department, which existed until 1944, was engaged in the collection of materials on the occult and witchcraft.
A huge part of the collection of printed editions, collected by the employees of the "N-Sonderkommando" in 260 libraries and archives, was called "Witch". Much attention was paid to the history of the persecution of witches in medieval Germany. Years of research led Nazi scientists to believe that in this way the Roman Catholic Church was trying to destroy the Aryan race. Moreover, Himmler learned that among the witches burned at the stake was his great-great-grandmother.
Part of the collection, the Reichsfuehrer SS intended to display in the castle "Black Camelot" (historical name - Wewelsburg), located in West Germany. There he held meetings of the secret consistory, based on the legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

The role of "knights" was played by 12 SS officers, and the "king", of course, was the owner of the castle. He tried to replace Christian symbolism with a pagan, more ancient and powerful one. Until now, this place, where the Nazis were fond of necromancy and held séances, is one of the main tourist attractions.
Some of the books in Himmler's collection were previously kept in the Oslo Masonic Library. According to Bjorn Helge Horrisland, the Norwegian historian who identified the copies, 6,000 books of the Freemasons' Order were taken out of the country during the Nazi occupation.
The room with the collection remained a secret for over 65 years, since the book depository had not been dismantled since the early 50s of the last century.
