Baalbek is an ancient city, which is located 80 km northeast of Beirut at an altitude of 1130 m. The name of this place is translated as "house of Baal" - the Phoenician god of thunder and lightning. According to Arab legends, it belonged to the Babylonian king Nimrod, who "sent giants to restore Baalbek after the Flood."

The main mystery of the dilapidated city is the terrace of the Temple of Jupiter. The stone blocks on which the temple complex stands weigh 800-1000 tons and lie at an eight-meter height. For comparison, the heaviest blocks of the largest pyramid in the world, the Cheops pyramid, weigh no more than 80 tons. At the same time, the secret of erecting Egyptian buildings has not been finally revealed, and the existing theories have not been tested in practice in their natural size.

If this does not surprise you, then it is worth mentioning that the largest block of Baalbek weighs 1,500 tons and is located in the quarry. Obviously, it was prepared to complete the platform, but for unknown reasons it was never used. It is currently the largest processed stone block in the world. The Lebanese call this stone "Mother" and believe that it helps with infertility.

Many are interested in the question: who and in what way was able to lay such heavy blocks in the foundation of the temple? At the moment, not one of the known mechanisms of those times could withstand such a load.
