Do you consider yourself smarter than most? In this you do not differ from the majority. This is confirmed by research. An international team of scientists found that most people consider themselves smarter than others.
Research published in PLoS ONE. Scientists note that "the tendency to overestimate one's cognitive abilities is a persistent feature of human psychology."
Scientists at the University of Illinois and the Toulouse Institute for Advanced Study asked people in a survey if they agreed with the statement "I am smarter than most." It turned out that almost two thirds (65%) of the respondents consider themselves smarter than the majority.
Moreover, the more educated people were, the more likely they were to agree with this statement. About three thousand people took part in the survey. There are also age differences. Young people were slightly more likely to agree with this statement than older ones.
There is also a gender difference. In both the telephone and online polls, a larger percentage of men consider themselves smarter and immediately agreed with this statement. In a telephone survey, this is 71% of men (versus 59% of women), and in an online survey, 72% (versus 60% of women). It is noteworthy that men are more inclined to “strongly agree” with this statement.
