Part of the Pentateuch and the Old Testament, Exodus tells the story of how the Red Sea parted for the prophet Moses and his people as soon as he waved the rod. Then the Egyptians, who pursued Moses, died in the depths of the closed sea.
This story interested specialists from the University of Colorado at Boulder and the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado. Using modern computer technology, they simulated this event and proved its possibility. The study was led by Carl Drews of NCAR. According to him, a strong wind at a speed of about 100 km / h, when exposed to water for 12 hours, could create a passage and high walls of water on the sides. A computer model developed by scientists confirms that such a passage could be held for up to 4 hours.
Previously, other scientists have repeatedly made attempts to explain the passage of Moses through the Red Sea. For example, studies conducted by scientists Alexei Androsov and Naum Wolzinger from the St. Petersburg branch of the Institute of Oceanology at the Russian Academy of Sciences, under the influence of a hurricane, a reef located in the Red Sea, in the Suez Canal region, could be exposed. At the same time, Drews and his colleagues questioned the possibility of people passing through the reef, and even into a hurricane. According to their version, the place of crossing the Red Sea was located further 120 km, on Lake Manzala, in the Nile delta region.
