Unlike Machu Picchu, the city of Buritaka is known to only a few scientists. It is located in the Cerro Corea Gorge at an altitude of 3055 m in the Sierra Nevada mountains near the city of Santa Marta (Colombia). Machu Picchu and Buritaka have an amazing similarity in mythology and astronomy, although they are more than 1000 km away from each other.
The literal name of this mysterious city lost in the jungle sounds like this: "Buritaka dos sientos", which means "Buritaka 200". The city covers an area ten times the size of Machu Picchu. Colombian archaeologists led by Professor Alvaro Soto Holguin managed to walk about 2000 km along its streets. No roads have been laid to Buritaku, scientists get there by helicopter. When approaching the city, a bright terrace is noticeable, somewhat reminiscent of a helipad. The terrace has a layered structure: one platform lies on top of the others. In this place, the animal world is extremely diverse, as evidenced by the cries of invisible animals, the roar of monkeys and the singing of birds.
An endless staircase is seen in the many vines. It is difficult to describe the unthinkable combination of bizarre structures: stone circles, winding walls, ellipses, turrets, stairs, corridors of various shapes. Behind the wall of vines, the winding Buritaka River is seen below, and steep cliffs hang from above. There is a persistent feeling that this place carries the spirit of a distant, incomprehensible past. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon are considered the seventh wonder of the world. Perhaps Buritaka can be considered the eighth.
Around the stones of the mighty walls and platforms of the city, the jungle reigns: walnut and laurel trees, cedars and various ferns. Currently, the city of Buritaka is a very intricate labyrinth.
