To reflect on the present
No society wants a person to become Wise. This is against the very nature of society. If people are wise, they cannot be exploited. If they are smart, then they cannot be conquered, they cannot be forced to live a mechanical life, like robots. They will search for their individuality, themselves. They will radiate purity that will propel others to rebellion. They will want to live free.
Freedom comes with Wisdom. No society wants a person to be free.
Communist, fascist, capitalist society, Hindu, Muslim, Christian … From the moment people start using their intellect, they become dangerous for government institutions, dangerous for those who have power, dangerous for any form of oppression, for any form of exploitation and suppression … Dangerous for churches, dangerous for the state, dangerous for the nation.
In fact, the Sage is Fire, it is Light, Flame. He won't sell his life. He will not serve them. He would rather die than be enslaved.
