The Indians living near the Arizona crater believed in the legend that once the God of fire descended from the sky on a chariot of fire, after which a cavity remained. The Indians wore meteorite amulets and relied on their protection, both in this world and after death, treated them very reverently, and used them during burial as the most important attribute.
In and around the crater, fragments of a meteorite containing nickel iron were found.
