For 62 years, 84-year-old Briton Barry Dawson from Manchester pretended to be deaf, so as not to listen to the annoying chatter of his wife Dorothy. Over the years, he did not say a word in front of his wife and never once showed that he hears her words. The couple have raised six children and have thirteen grandchildren, all of whom also thought that Mr. Dawson could hear absolutely nothing.
In order to somehow interact with her husband, Mrs. Dawson learned sign language in her youth, but even when communicating in this language, her husband was never particularly talkative.

Insulted in the best feelings, the woman filed for divorce, demanding compensation for the deception and half of the jointly acquired property.
Mr Dawson's lawyer, in defense of his client, said that if he had not pretended to be deaf and dumb, they would have divorced 60 years ago.
